This year we are facing an exceptional situation. Following the arrival of COVID-19 in our lives, now more than ever there is a great concern in society for cleanliness, hygiene and especially health. This concern extends to all types of viruses, bacteria and pollution of the air, forests and oceans. All these factors influence the quality and hygiene of the environment and affect our organism to a great extent.

According to a report by the WHO (World Health Organization), a total of 5 million deaths per year of children between 0 and 14 years old in the world are attributed to diseases and conditions caused by the environments in which they live, study and play. This data only highlights the need for our environment to enjoy the best hygiene, sanitation and quality so as not to put our health and that of our families at risk.

This pandemic has opened our eyes, making us aware of how vulnerable we are and that technology, although it can facilitate many aspects of our lives, cannot advance fast enough to get us out of situations like the one we have been living in these months in the very short term. However, technology can become a very powerful tool to ensure our hygiene and minimize risks to our health.

Since we saw the seriousness of COVID-19, technology companies have been innovating against the clock to democratize advances that can protect everyone and that prioritize, above all, disinfection and sanitation of all objects with which we interact daily.

In this sense, Korea is a benchmark for technological innovation worldwide. For this reason, in recent months we have worked in LG both there and in Spain to bring to our country a series of product categories that we had not previously contemplated developing or marketing due to market issues. Products that effectively and efficiently clean our homes, our food and our clothes in response to a change in consumer demand rarely seen before in recent history.

At LG we believe that technology is only useful if it serves to improve people's lives. We innovate to offer cutting-edge solutions, such as the first air conditioner with integrated purifier that detects harmful particles and gases so that the user can breathe totally pure air inside his or her home. In addition, the first connected mask arrives in Spain to alleviate the quality problems of homemade masks or the lack of supply of disposable ones. This mask effectively becomes a portable air purifier designed for these times, with the same efficiency in filters as the most advanced LG air purifiers, fans and even a sensor that adapts its speed according to the user's breathing cycle, all to protect people when they go outdoors or work in the office.

There are other additional technologies that are currently capable of disinfecting the most everyday objects. One of them is ultraviolet light, which studies at Korean universities cite as the next great revolution in disinfection, used in the first wireless headphones that we have launched in our country. We will also include this same technology in our next line of refrigerators. But it is not the only differential technology we use to fight viruses and bacteria in a responsible and clean way. We make use of steam, one of the most effective techniques in disinfection, at high temperatures as in the case of our LG Vapor Cleaner, a "steam cabinet" that eliminates bacteria and odors by 99.99%.

These technologies and products are one more commitment of LG to offer solutions that take care of people and the planet, providing a more hygienic and cleaner environment.

In short, technology companies have a great responsibility in the current health crisis. In spite of being a sector hit like all others by its economic consequences, the effort being made in recent months worldwide for innovation in the field of home hygiene and health is being impressive. It is necessary to put technology at the service of people to improve their lives and make them easier. We have taken a step forward in this direction and, if it was our motto and our priority before, this pandemic has raised its importance and the role that technology companies must play with our innovation in the most immediate future of the planet.

Spain, a bridge to Latin America

mapa espana latinoamericaSpain has invested heavily in Latin America.
