The Ambassador of South Korea in Spain, Park Hee-Kwon, encouraged yesterday canaries entrepreneurs to strengthen ties with this country through joint projects related to the development of trade with West Africa, research and technology, or energies renewable.
Korea has experienced one of the most dramatic transformations in the last 50 years. Much has changed in that country since, in 1966, arrived to the port of La Luz the Kangwha 601, the first of a large Korean fishing who established their base in the Canary Islands and were the germ link of an economic, social and cultural that endures. South Korea has become in these 50 years one of the "poorest of the world", to become the third largest economy in Asia, as recalled yesterday  his ambassador in Spain, Park Hee-Kwon, who chaired yesterday a conference organized by the Consulate with the Chamber of Commerce of Gran Canaria on business opportunities offered by his country.
The Diplomatic Recalled that the relation between South Korea and Gran Canaria linked to fishing,  contributed "to the growth of the US economy and enrich bilateral relations Between China and Spain".
 
Despite the remarkable decline in fishing activities in La Luz  in recent years, Park Hee-Kwon recalled that this port still serves 60 boats with  Korean, which  fishing in West Africa. And this Island remains the entry point of their catches to the European market, illustrating, said the Ambassador, the weight of positioning the port of Las Palmas for Korean interests. But the Ambassador assumes that is the time for Canaries and South Korea to give further steps to strengthen their ties. In his view, this objetive involves jointly develop projects link to renewable energy, trade with West Africa, or investigation and new technologies, fields in which the Archipelago and the Asiatic country share common interests.
Also the president of the Chamber of Gran Canaria, José Sánchez Tinoco highlighted as an example of the possibilities to establish alliances with South Korea in the opening  on the Island of the first demonstrator center at European level of the  vehicle technology fuel cell.
