Sejong , Dec. 3 ( Yonhap) - The accumulated foreign orders made ​​to South Korean builders have exceeded 600,000 million so far this year , said Tuesday , the Ministry of Land , Infrastructure and Transport .

According to the ministry , as of last Monday, the total amount of orders overseas construction made ​​by Korean companies reached 601.2 billion dollars, surpassing for the first time , the barrier of 600,000 million from 1965 . The feat was achieved just 18 months after the cumulative amount of construction orders overseas reached in June 2012 , 500,000 million.

The milestone is significant because South Korea is trying to become the fifth country in the world in terms of construction orders abroad for 2017 , having been appointed in August as the sixth by an international publication.

Of the total construction orders abroad for the past 48 years , South Korea won 57.8 percent of the Middle Eastern countries and 29.7 percent of Asian nations .

However, in the last 18 months , construction orders from Asian countries have steadily increased , accounting for 37 percent of all construction orders abroad , which , according to the ministry , is a positive development , demonstrating the diversification of markets for South Korean builders and reducing its dependence on the Middle East.

The ministry added that the construction has been abroad for a long time, one of the key export items of the country and that the Government will make every effort to support construction projects carried out by local companies abroad because builders are doing everything possible , despite the many difficult conditions they face .
