SEOUL, Dec. 3 ( Yonhap) - Hyundai Motor Co. and its smaller affiliate Kia Motors Corp., continued to dominate the car market of South Korea, but their combined market share has declined slightly in recent months, data showed Tuesday .

The two main carmakers sold 93,254 units in November , representing 78.3 percent of the domestic car market , according to data compiled by Hyundai and Kia.

Their combined share in the domestic market stood at over 80 percent in the first seven months of this year, but since then has stalled at just under 80 percent .

Domestic sales of Hyundai and Kia were reduced by 11.9 and 12.3 percent in November compared with the same month last year, according to the data.

The manufacturers said that a drop in domestic sales , reduced working days and a high comparison base recorded late last year, are responsible for the recent decline in its market share .

Hyundai and Kia are the two main flagship units of Hyundai Automotive Group of South Korea, the fifth automaker in the world.

Meanwhile , GM Korea, the local unit of U.S. automaker General Motors Co. sold 14,100 units in November , occupying 11.8 percent of the domestic auto market .

Ssangyong Motor, the local unit of Indian manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., sold 6,540 units last month , representing 5.5 per cent .

Renault Samsung Motors Inc., the local unit of French automaker Renault SA , said its market share stood at 4.4 percent in November, with sales of 5,301 units.
