Hanoi, September 9 ( Yonhap ) - South Korean President , Park Geun - hye , said Monday a summit meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart Truong Tan Sang in Hanoi , and the two adopted a joint statement pledging to accelerate negotiations to sign a free trade agreement ( FTA ) comprehensive higher level .

The Office of the President of South Korea announced that in the joint statement , the two leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation for common prosperity partnership and strive together to promote the happiness of the two peoples.

Under the joint statement, the two countries agreed to raise to a higher level of cooperation relations of fellowship, signed in 2009, and to work closely not only on matters of bilateral interest , but also on issues facing the international community .

To do this, Seoul and Hanoi decided to accelerate the negotiations for the bilateral FTA , holding two rounds of negotiations within this year.
