SEOUL, May 20 (Yonhap) -- LG Display Co. and Samsung Display Co., the world's two biggest display makers, said Monday that they will showcase their industry-leading technologies and state-of-the-art display prototypes at an annual industry fair in Canada.

During the Society for Information Display's Display Week 2013, which runs in Vancouver from May 21 to 23, LG Display will show a 5-inch flexible OLED screen to be mounted on its smartphone, which is expected to hit the market later this year.

LG Electronics, an affiliate of LG Electronics Inc., the country's No. 2 mobile phone maker after Samsung Electronics Inc., recently revealed the world's first curved OLED TV, staying ahead of the competition for the burgeoning OLED TV market and claiming bragging rights over its OLED technology.

LG Display also said it will showcase 5-inch and 7-inch HD Oxide TFT panels for smartphones and tablet PCs, and a few other displays. The panels are lightweight and consume less power than their traditional equivalents, LG Display said.

Also on display are 12-inch LCDs designed for use in refrigerators and automotive dashboards, it said.

Meanwhile, Samsung Display also said it plans to showcase several mobile to extra-large-sized display prototypes at the fair, including a full HD mobile AMOLED display with the world's broadest color gamut, and an 85-inch Ultra HD LCD TV panel with extremely vivid color and low power consumption.

The world's first mass-produced 4.99-inch full HD mobile AMOLED display offers the world's broadest color gamut, it claimed.

Samsung Display also plans to demonstrate a unique new Diamond Pixel technology at the show, and a featured LCD technology that enables local-dimming control in direct LED-based LCD panels.
