Barcelona, Feb. 24 (Yonhap) - Samsung Electronics Co., the leading smartphone maker in the world, aims to double sales this year with its new tablet computer Galaxy Note 8.0, said Sunday the head of mobile business company.

"It is expected that the tablet PC market to grow 50 percent compared to last year. Samsung aims to double its sales and focus on the tablet PC market," said Shin Jong-kyun, head of the Division of Communications Samsung mobile and IT, in a press conference during mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The comments came at a time when Samsung accelerates its efforts to increase its presence in the global market for tablet computers that is mainly dominated by the iPad from Apple Inc.

Since sales of Samsung tablet computers reached 17.7 million units in 2012, according to estimates from market researcher IDC Corp., it is likely that the target company's sales this year to exceed 30 million units .

But Shin did not say when the company expects to be a leader in the tablet computer market.

Meanwhile, the head of Samsung's mobile business plans to focus on the segment of electronic commerce between businesses (B2B), as a growing number of companies are adopting smart devices.

Shin also confirmed that Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy 4S at an event in New York on March 14.
