Barcelona, Feb. 24 (Yonhap) - LG Electronics Inc., the fifth mobile phone manufacturer in the world, aims to sell over 40 million smartphones in the world this year, said on Sunday (local time).

"We sold 8.3 million smartphones in the fourth quarter. This year, our goal is to sell an average of 10 million smartphones every quarter," said Park Jong-seok, head of the unit of LG Mobile Communications, in a press conference.

LG aims to double sales of its devices long term evolution (LTE, according to its acronym in English), said Park.

As part of efforts to achieve the goal, LG introduced a new line of smartphones at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, ranging from G Optimus Pro high quality F-Series line segment masses LTE .

The head of mobile business this year promised to stimulate both growth and profitability.
